The Kunda Park Survey found that fixing the precinct’s congestion and the dangerous Pike Street intersections is the number one priority for the precinct’s businesses, workers and property owners.

As well as the regular morning and afternoon gridlock on the access roads in and out the precinct, a number of survey respondents raised major safety concerns with the Pike Street intersection, with multiple reports of dangerous near misses involving heavy vehicles.

KPA research has found that daily congestion is causing thousands of lost work hours and is costing Kunda Park businesses and workers a staggering $28m each year!

Upgrading the Pike Street Intersection was identified by the Dept of Transport and Main Roads as a projectin 2017, but nearly a decade on there is still:

“no funding allocated to complete detailed design or the construction of the project”

Survey respondents also raised major safety concerns with the intersection.

We need to let Minister Mickelberg know that this is an urgent priority.

I am writing to you to ask for your help to fix a longstanding issue for the Kunda Park Industrial Precinct.

The Maroochydore Road, Pike Street and Killick Street intersection has been a major problem for local Kunda Park businesses, workers and property owners for many years. It was identified as an issue by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in 2017, but nearly a decade on there is still “no funding allocated to complete detailed design or the construction of the project”.

With over 400 small to medium businesses employing over 4,500 workers, Kunda Park is a vital contributor to the region and state economies. Daily congestion is a huge drag on productivity. A survey currently being conducted by the newly established Kunda Park Alliance (www.kundapark.net) has found that the daily congestion that impacts both the northern and southern sides of the precinct is causing thousands of lost work hours and is costing Kunda Park businesses and workers a staggering $28m each year. The survey also identified serious safety concerns about the intersection.

We understand that there are lots of competing projects for the Department of Transport and Main Roads but after so many years of inaction (mostly while you were in opposition) we feel the need to highlight this issue and ask for your leadership to get it fixed as soon as possible.
